| Shell Conservation Intern Morgan Traverse |
Hi,
My name is Morgan Traverse and I am definitely enjoying my summer as a Shell Conservation Intern with the Nature Conservancy of Canada. After my recent graduation from the Recreation, Fish, and Wildlife program from Selkirk College in Castlegar, BC I’ve been stationed out of Calgary, Alberta with two other interns.
My summer so far has exceeded any expectations that I had when I was first awarded the position. There have been several times that I’ve been overwhelmed by the fact that I am working in my dream job! I have seen some marvelous and diverse ecosystems here in Southern Alberta! In the same week, I have experienced completely different environments, like the mountainous terrain near Canmore and the prairie ecosystems near Okotoks. Horseshoe Canyon was a particular delight for me. The vegetation and landforms were so dreamlike; there were moments I felt close to tears at the unbelievable beauty.
I am discovering so much about the world around me! For instance, my knowledge of birds has dramatically increased in the past few weeks. Identifying vegetation has been something that I have enjoyed doing in my spare time for quite awhile and being able to do so full-time is an indescribable source of joy for me.
In the future I would love to be involved in habitat reclamation and conservation. My educational future includes achieving my degree in Environmental Science at Royal Roads University in Victoria, BC. I have an enduring love for animals and plants and am passionate about doing all I can as an individual to help save and restore the land that is so precious to us all… Canada!
